Welcome to adopt-a-greyhound.org

Welcome to adopt-a-greyhound.org, the official website of The Greyhound Project

The mission of The Greyhound Project is to promote the welfare and adoption of greyhounds by providing support and information to adoption organizations, adopters, and the public.

We have assembled tons of information to help you learn more about them, so please take a moment to explore our site. Hopefully, you'll join the thousands of people who have discovered that their adopted friend is one of the nicest and most affectionate pets they've ever had.

We can also help you find out where you can adopt one.

News

May 8, 2020 -- Due to COVID-19, tracks have closed. There is an urgent need to support groups receiving dogs all over the country.

With the support of on-line betting, some Florida tracks are racing with no fans in the park. Since greyhound racing will cease in Florida at the end of  2020, this is a great time to consider adding one of these athletes to your family.

What can you do now?  PLEASE support your local adoption group (check our agency listings  to find a group near you). Getting the dogs from Florida to groups that can rehome them is an expensive process, and your local adoption group is the place to begin.  Donate funds, foster, and/or adopt.  Ask them what they need. It will take all of us pitching in together to get these dogs safely to their couches.

New electronic photo submission guidelines are here! The Greyhound Project produces calendars as a fundraiser for adoption groups, and about 10,000 are purchased annually. Each photo caption identifies the dog, adopter, and agency, and we send a free calendar if your photo(s) are selected.

Published from 1996 through 2017, each issue of Celebrating Greyhounds contained more than 50 beautifully designed pages of feature stories, humor, poetry, and photographs that explore the many ways these dogs are integrated into our lives.
